SCAPR hosted the 2025 Past Presidents Lunch on September 12 at Kinkaid’s of Redondo Beach
SCAPR welcomed Colonel Matthew Spencer for our July luncheon. Col. Matthew L. Spencer is the first Commander of the newly activated PNT System Delta, Space System Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. He leads the GPS portfolio of programs which encompasses space vehicles and M-Code user equipment to the DoD and partner nations.
Congratulations 2025 SCAPR Scholars:
Abrianna Durapau, Mia Mayeda, and Renata Flippo
Abrianna Durapau’s parents are U.S. Army Reserve Master Sergeant John Durapau and Danielle Durapau. She attends San Pedro High School and plans to study Environmental Science. Abrianna excelled academically, completing three Advanced Placement courses and earning High (Gold) and Silver Honors. She dedicated herself to marine conservation, serving as a Docent at the Marine Mammal Care Center, where she educated visitors and supported wildlife rehabilitation efforts. Beyond her environmental advocacy, Abrianna embraces traditional and digital art, using creativity to express her perspectives and passions. She also actively supports the school Pride club, fostering inclusivity and community engagement.
Mia Mayeda, daughter of retired U.S. Air Force Lt Col Chris Mayeda and Lisa Mayeda, attends North High School in Torrance and plans to pursue Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California. Mia’s passion is theater, using it as a creative outlet to build essential life skills. She played JV Volleyball, earning co-MVP honors, and led in various school organizations —serving as Worship Coordinator for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Treasurer of Club Cubed. She sings in Advanced Choir and took part in the Rising Stars Youth Leadership Program. Committed to her community, Mia volunteers as a tutor and children’s ministry student aide. As an AP Scholar with Honor, she completed 12 Advanced Placement and Honors courses, along with 8 post-secondary classes at El Camino College, demonstrating her academic excellence and ambition.
Renata Flippo is the daughter of U.S. Space Force civilian Richard Flippo and Lana Flippo. A Junior at University of California, Los Angeles, she studies Mechanical Engineering. Renata graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pierce College in Los Angeles in June 2024, earning Associate Degrees in Mathematics and Physics. She received Presidential Honors three times, Full-Time Dean’s Honor Roll three times, and Part-Time Dean’s Honor Roll three times, showcasing her academic excellence. She volunteers as a tutor in Physics, Math, and Chemistry while actively participating in Bruin Formula Racing and the UCLA Ecological Restoration Association. At Pierce College, she served as Math Club Treasurer. Renata notes her greatest fulfillment in expressing creativity through crafts and other creative forms of expression, which helps her connect with herself and realign her priorities.

SCAPR was delighted to host Col Klopstein at the March Luncheon. Col. Corey Klopstein is the Program Executive Officer (PEO), Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI), Space Systems Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif.
