Speaker Bio:
John Steinmeyer is Executive Director for Assured Access to Space, USSF Space Systems Command. In this role he supports AATS’s leader in the acquisition, integration, operation and sustainment of the $13.5B National Security Space Launch Program, Rocket System Launch Program and other emerging Space Mobility and Logistics mission areas. Assured Access to Space delivers launch services and on-orbit capabilities for the USSF and Intelligence Community, leveraging commercial and government space industry partners to develop, produce, and operate launch systems, as well as sustainment and modernization of the Eastern and Western Launch Ranges. John is also a certified National Security Space Launch Mission Director. John has over 35 years of experience in launch vehicle system program management, design, development, procurement, integration, operations, sales, and acquisition.
Prior to assuming his current role, John spent 10 years with Northrop Grumman Corporation and its affiliated entities. As Director of Space Launch Business Development for the Launch Vehicles Business Unit he led and coordinated business development actives for the Pegasus, Minotaur, Antares and proposed Omega launch systems, interfacing with both government and commercial customers. Prior to this, as Senior Systems Engineering Manager, John supported the development, sales, and successful operation of the Antares launch system for the International Space Station Commercial Cargo Resupply Services program, and served as Integrated Product Team Lead for the Antares RD-181 main engine procurement from N.P.O. Energomash.
Preceding this, John was with Boeing and the former McDonnell Douglas companies for 22 years, supporting development, procurement and operations of multiple expendable launch systems including Titan IV, Delta II, III & IV, Japanese H-IIA, and Sea Launch. John held positions of increasing responsibility in Engineering, Procurement, and Program Management including:
- Major Supplier Program Manager in Nagoya Japan leading a cooperative propellant tank development program between Boeing and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
- Major Supplier Program Manager for Delta II, III and IV Propulsion
- Chief of Staff supporting the Vice President and General Manager of Boeing Expendable Launch Systems.
- Director of Mission Integration for Sea Launch LLC, leading the integration of over 30 satellites manifested on Sea Launch and Land Launch vehicles, and supporting Sea Launch and Land Launch campaigns as certified Chief Systems Engineer and Assistant Mission Director.
John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from U. C. San Diego, and an MBA with an emphasis in International Business and Organization Development from the University of Southern California Marshall School Of Business. John serves on the Board of Directors of Focal Technology, an emerging clean-tech company, and Young Life One Orange County. He also is a member of the advisory board of Concordia University Irvine’s Engineering Department.
